Explorer
See your blocks, prompts and folders in one place, and open, move, copy, file and delete them.
Explorer shows your blocks and prompts (Static, Dynamic and Markdown documents) side by side, with your folders, like a file browser. Use it to find things by folder, and to move, copy, file and delete them. Archived and deleted items aren’t shown here; they’re on the Archive screen.
To open Explorer, click Explorer in the sidebar, or press Ctrl+4.
The two tabs
At the top of Explorer are two tabs:
- Recent: every block and prompt you’ve changed lately, from all folders. Folders themselves aren’t shown. At first, “lately” means within the last 30 days. To change the number of days, click Settings in the sidebar, then Blocks & prompts, and change Days in Recent.
- All Files: your folders. All Files itself shows every block and prompt, whatever folder it’s in, with your top-level folders first. Inside a folder you see its subfolders and the items directly in it.

Explorer opens on Recent, unless a folder or tag filter is already on; then it opens on All Files. Clicking a folder in the sidebar also switches to All Files.
Move around your folders
On the All Files tab:
- Open a folder: click it.
- Go back up: click a name in the path above the list, for example All Files or a folder above the one you’re in.
- Hide the folders: untick Show folders in the toolbar to see only blocks and prompts. Tick it to show folders again.
Folders always come before blocks and prompts, and show on every page of the list.
Tiles and rows
Click Tile view or List view in the toolbar. Explorer remembers your choice.
Each tile shows the item’s name, type, kind (Static, Dynamic or Markdown for prompts), its location, and, if those features are on, its stars, tags and heart. Point to a tile to see more about it, such as its full location, dates, and how many prompts use a block.
The location reads My Files for an item that isn’t in a folder, or the name of the folder it’s in. Click it to open that folder. A team-library item that isn’t in a folder reads No folder, and has a badge with the library’s name.

In List view the columns are Fav, Name, Kind, Type, Location, Library, Rating, Date created, Last modified, Versions and Used By (how many prompts use a block). Folder rows show Folder as their kind.
-
Click Columns in the toolbar to choose which columns show. Name always shows. The choice also applies to the Blocks and Prompts screens.

-
Drag the right edge of a column heading to make it wider or narrower.
-
Click the funnel in a column heading to filter by that column. See Filter by column, type or kind.
Fav and Rating show only while the Favorites & ratings feature is on, Versions only while Version history is on, and Library once you have a team library.
Search, sort and filter
- Search: type in the Search… box (or press Ctrl+F). It looks in names, types, kinds, tags, folders, dates and the text of each block and prompt, and in folder names.
- Sort: choose from the sort list in the toolbar and click the arrow next to it for ascending or descending. In List view you can also click a column heading. Explorer starts sorted by Last modified, newest first.
- Filter: the sidebar’s folder, library, tag, favorite and rating filters apply here too. Folders are narrowed only by the search box, not by tags, favorites or ratings.
- Clear filters: click Clear filters in the toolbar to clear everything at once.
For more on each of these, see Find anything.
Under the list, choose how many items show on a page (25, 50, 75 or 100) next to Show, and use the arrows to move between pages.
Open an item
Double-click a block or prompt to open it for editing:
- A block opens on the Blocks screen.
- A Static prompt opens on the Prompts screen.
- A Dynamic prompt or a Markdown document opens on the Build screen.
If the Markdown editor feature is off, a Markdown document opens on the Prompts screen for reading instead. A single click doesn’t open an item, so you can click its heart, stars or location without leaving Explorer.
Do something with one item
Right-click a block or prompt for its menu:

| Menu item | What it does |
|---|---|
| Edit | Opens it for editing, as double-click does. |
| Copy | Makes a copy in the folder you pick. See Copy an item. |
| Download .md | Markdown documents only. Saves the document as a .md file. |
| Move | Moves it to another folder or library. See Move an item. |
| History | Shows its earlier versions. See Version history. |
| Used by | Blocks only. Lists the Dynamic prompts that use the block; click one to open it. |
| Add to favorites / Remove from favorites | Marks it with the heart, or takes the heart off. |
| Rating | Click a star to rate it. Click the same star again to clear the rating. |
| Delete | Asks whether to archive or delete it. See Archive, delete and restore. |
History shows only while the Version history feature is on, and the favorite and rating items only while Favorites & ratings is on.
Each tile also has small icon buttons: a pencil (edit), a clock (version history), an arrow (move), two squares (copy, the same as Copy) and a trash can (delete). In List view they’re in the last column.
Do something with a folder
Right-click a folder for New folder (a folder inside it), Rename, Move, Copy and Delete. Each folder tile also has buttons to rename, move, copy and delete it. Folders, moving and copying explains each one.
To make a new folder, click New folder at the top of Explorer, press Ctrl+N, or right-click an empty part of the list on the All Files tab and click New folder. The new folder goes inside the folder you’re in. On the Recent tab, New folder makes a top-level folder.
Select several items
-
Tick the box on each tile or row you want. In List view, tick the box in the heading row to select everything in the list, on every page.
-
A bar appears above the list, showing how many you selected.

-
Click Move, Copy or Delete. Click Clear to unselect everything.
You can select folders and items together. Move and Copy act on all of them at once. Delete covers blocks and prompts only: folders in the selection are skipped, and with only folders selected it’s grayed out. Delete folders one at a time, from their right-click menu.
The selection clears when you switch tabs or open another folder, and after an action finishes.
Drag and drop
On the All Files tab you can drag to file things:
- Drag a block or prompt onto a folder to move it into that folder.
- Drag a folder onto another folder to put it inside that folder.
- Drag either onto a name in the path above the list to move it up to that folder, or onto All Files to move it to the top level.
A folder you can drop onto is highlighted as you drag over it. You can’t drop a folder into itself or into one of its own subfolders.
Dragging only moves things within one library. To put an item in another library, use Move instead (see Move an item).
Messages
| Message | What it means |
|---|---|
| Nothing matches “…”. | Nothing fits your search. Try other words, or click Clear filters. |
| No blocks or prompts yet. | On the Recent tab: nothing was changed within the last Days in Recent days, or the sidebar filters hide everything. Try the All Files tab, or click Clear filters. |
| This folder is empty. | The folder has nothing in it that matches your filters. |
If you’re on the Free plan and a copy would take you over 25 blocks or 15 prompts, a message says so instead of copying. See Plans and limits.
When your library is paused
If your library is paused (you’re on the Free plan with more than 25 blocks or 15 prompts, for example after your 14 days of Pro end), you can still browse, archive and delete in Explorer, but you can’t move, copy, make or change folders, or change hearts and stars. See When your library is paused.

About PromptMason: a Windows desktop app for building AI prompts from reusable blocks. A person writes blocks (reusable pieces of prompt text), builds prompts from them on the Build screen (or keeps a Markdown document, such as a Skill), and copies a prompt into an AI tool, runs it in PromptMason’s own Chat, or lets a connected AI agent use it through PromptMason’s built-in MCP server (the Chrome extension copies prompts on any website). AI assist, Evaluate and Chat use a local model that runs on the person’s PC, or their own AI provider. The guides are also on PromptMason’s Help screen, and Chat can answer “how do I” questions from them. Libraries hold the blocks and prompts; a person can sync their personal library to their other PCs and share team libraries, both through a folder in cloud storage they already have (OneDrive, Google Drive or Dropbox). Everything synced is encrypted and every edit is signed and checked. A recovery kit (a file plus a code) is the spare copy of the person’s keys, for when every PC is lost.
