About PromptMason

What is PromptMason?

PromptMason is a private prompt library on your own computer. You build prompts from reusable blocks, such as a role, background about your work, a task or a format, and keep them encrypted on your computer. When you improve a block, every dynamic prompt that uses it improves too.

Your library then goes wherever you use AI. Built-in MCP plugs it into Claude Desktop, Cursor and Claude Code. Built-in Private AI runs a free AI model on your computer. The Chrome extension puts your prompts one click away on any website, and team libraries share them with the people you choose.

Download PromptMason to try Pro free for 14 days, or see Pricing for the plans.

Who is PromptMason for?

Anyone who uses AI tools often enough to keep rewriting the same instructions. If you paste the same background, tone or format rules into ChatGPT, Claude or Gemini again and again, PromptMason saves them once so you can reuse them.

It suits people working on their own and small teams alike. Ready-made packs cover everyday work, finance, legal, marketing, sales, HR and customer support, and the prompt library has deeper packs for professions and industries. Team libraries let coworkers, friends or family share the same prompts, always up to date.

It’s also for anyone who wants their prompts kept private. Your library stays on your computer, not on our servers.

What problem does PromptMason solve?

Good prompts take work, and most of that work gets lost. The version that worked ends up in an old chat, a document or a notes app, and the next prompt starts from scratch.

PromptMason turns the pieces your best prompts share into blocks. Write a block once, drag it into as many prompts as you like, and change it in one place when you find a better wording. Every dynamic prompt that uses it follows. Variables fill in details like your company name, or ask for the topic each time you copy.

The result is a library you can trust, ready in seconds in whichever AI tool you use. See Create and edit blocks for how blocks work.

How is this different from keeping prompts in a document or a notes app?

A document holds text. PromptMason holds the pieces your prompts are made from, and keeps them in step.

  • Change once, update everywhere. Edit a block and every dynamic prompt that uses it shows the new wording. In a document, you hunt down every copy.
  • Fill in the blanks. Variables put in your company name, or ask for the client or deadline when you copy.
  • Find it fast. Search, folders, tags, favorites and ratings, plus a Chrome extension that opens your library on any website.
  • Use it in your AI apps. Claude Desktop, Cursor and Claude Code can search and fill in your prompts through Built-in MCP.
  • Go back. Version history keeps every saved change.
How is this different from ChatGPT's saved prompts or custom instructions?

Saved prompts and custom instructions live inside one AI app. Your PromptMason library is yours, and it works across all of them.

Open Claude, ChatGPT, Gemini or Copilot in tabs inside PromptMason and drop a saved prompt straight into the message box. Use the Chrome extension to paste a prompt into any chat box on any website. Connect Claude Desktop, Cursor or Claude Code through Built-in MCP. Or run a prompt in PromptMason’s own Chat, with the free built-in AI model or your own API key.

Your library stays on your computer, encrypted, rather than in an AI company’s account. If you switch AI tools, your prompts come with you. See Built-in MCP and the Chrome extension.

How is PromptMason different from other prompt tools?

Three things set it apart.

  • Blocks, not just saved text. Prompts are built from reusable blocks, so one improvement reaches every prompt that uses it.
  • Private by design. No account, nothing stored on our servers, no tracking. Your library is encrypted on your own computer, and a free AI model runs right there, so private work never leaves it.
  • Everything’s built in. MCP for Claude Desktop, Cursor and Claude Code, the Chrome extension, Chat, AI assist and Evaluate, and team libraries that share through the cloud storage you already use.

Every feature is in the Free plan too. Pro only removes the limit on how much you keep. See Pricing.

Do I need to be technical to use PromptMason?

No. You write blocks in plain words, drag them onto a canvas in the order you want, and copy the finished prompt. Starter packs give you ready-made blocks and prompts, so you never start from a blank page.

The more technical parts are optional, and mostly one click. Connecting Claude Desktop or Cursor is an Add button in Settings, and Claude Code takes one copied command. The built-in AI model is a single download from Settings, with no API key or account.

Every screen has a guide in PromptMason’s Help, and the same guides are on this site, starting from the basics.

Plans and buying

Why would I pay for Pro if Free has every feature?

Free has every feature, with room for 25 blocks and 15 prompts. That’s enough to try PromptMason properly, and plenty for some people. Pro is for when your library outgrows it.

With Pro you get unlimited blocks, prompts, documents and Skills, every starter pack and Mega pack, as many shared libraries as you like, no limit on what your AI apps can save, and your library on up to 3 of your computers. Buy during the launch and the launch price stays yours for as long as you stay subscribed.

See Pricing for what Pro costs.

What's the difference between Free and Pro?

Only how much you can keep. Both plans have every feature: Built-in MCP, Built-in Private AI, Chat, team libraries, sync, backups, AI assist, Evaluate and the Chrome extension.

Free holds up to 25 blocks and 15 prompts, counted across every library on your computer. Archived items count; items you delete don’t. Markdown documents count as prompts. Chats, variables, folders and comments don’t count at all.

Pro removes the limit, and works on up to 3 of your own computers. There are no tiers and no add-ons. See Plans and limits for the details, or Pricing for the price.

How does the free trial work? Do I need a card?

Every download starts with 14 days of Pro, with every limit lifted. You don’t need a card, an account or a key. You give your email so we can send you the download link, and we don’t email you anything else unless you tick the box for news.

The 14 days start by themselves the first time you open PromptMason, and there’s one trial per computer. Settings → Plan shows how many days are left, and from three days before the end, a line at the top of the window reminds you.

When the trial ends, PromptMason moves to the Free plan unless you buy Pro. See Your trial and license key.

What is the launch price, and how long does it last?

During the launch, Pro costs less than its normal price, monthly and yearly alike. Buy now and the launch price is yours for as long as you stay subscribed, even after the launch offer ends.

Pricing shows the launch price next to the normal one, and what you save.

Should I pay monthly or yearly?

Both get you the same Pro, with everything included. Yearly costs less overall: it works out to two months free compared with paying monthly. Monthly lets you pay as you go and cancel any time.

Whichever you choose, the launch price stays yours while you stay subscribed, and your first payment has a 14-day money-back guarantee. The Pricing page shows both: pick one with the Yearly and Monthly switch before you buy.

How many computers can I use Pro on?

Pro is for one person, on up to 3 of their own computers. Activate your key on each one in Settings → Plan.

Your key turns on Pro; it doesn’t bring your library with it. To have the same library on each computer, sync your personal library through your own cloud storage, such as OneDrive, Google Drive or Dropbox. See Use your library on a second PC.

To use your key on a new computer when it’s already on 3, open Settings → Plan on one of the others, click Advanced, then Remove license. Then activate it on the new one. See Move your key to another PC.

What happens when my trial ends, or if I go back to Free?

Nothing is deleted. PromptMason moves to the Free plan, which keeps every feature.

If your library fits within 25 blocks and 15 prompts, you carry on as before. If it’s bigger, your library is paused: you can still see, search and export everything, but you can’t add, edit or copy until you buy Pro or delete items to get back within the limits.

Deleted items go to Recently deleted, which doesn’t count, so you don’t have to empty it. Archiving doesn’t help, because archived items still count. See When your library is paused.

How do I cancel Pro?

Any time, from the link in your receipt email. You keep Pro until the end of the month or year you’ve paid for, and it doesn’t renew after that.

When Pro ends, PromptMason moves to the Free plan. Nothing in your library is deleted. If you have more than 25 blocks or 15 prompts, your library is paused until you’re back within the limits or on Pro again: you can still see, search and export everything meanwhile.

See Refunds for how cancelling and refunds work.

Can I get a refund?

Yes, within 14 days of your first payment. If Pro isn’t right for you, ask within that time and you get a full refund, for monthly or yearly Pro.

After 14 days, and for renewals, partial periods aren’t refunded; cancel to stop the next renewal. If you were charged by mistake, contact us and we’ll put it right.

To ask, email support@promptmason.ai from the address you used at checkout. Refunds are made through Polar, our payment provider, to your original payment method. See Refunds.

Where do I find my receipt and my license key?

Once you’ve paid, the checkout page shows your Pro license key, and your receipt comes by email. Keep both: the receipt email has the link to cancel, and you need the key to turn on Pro.

To activate it, click Settings in PromptMason’s sidebar, then Plan, paste the key under License key and click Activate. Activating needs an internet connection.

If you can’t find your key, email support@promptmason.ai from the address you used at checkout. See Activate a Pro key for the steps.

How do I buy PromptMason for my team?

There’s one Pro plan, for one person on up to 3 of their own computers, so each person who needs Pro buys their own.

Not everyone may need it. Team libraries work on Free, but a shared library counts toward each person’s Free limits, together with their own library. A team that shares more than 25 blocks or 15 prompts needs Pro for each person. Everyone can start with 14 days of Pro to find out.

For questions about buying for a group, email support@promptmason.ai. See Team libraries for how sharing works.

Privacy and security

Where is my library kept?

On your own computer. Your blocks, prompts, documents, variables and chats are saved there, encrypted, and aren’t stored on a PromptMason server.

Copies exist only where you put them: a cloud folder you choose for syncing or sharing, a backup folder you pick, or a file you export. Synced and backed-up files are encrypted, so the storage company can’t read them. Exported files are in plain, readable form, so keep them somewhere only you can open.

See Privacy in PromptMason for everything that stays on your computer and everything that can leave it.

Is my library encrypted?

Yes, on its own, with no setting to turn on and no password to type. The text of your blocks, prompts and documents, every earlier version, your variable values, comments, chats, AI keys and license key are encrypted on your computer’s disk, and unlocked by your own user account.

Names, types, tags, folders and dates stay readable, so search stays fast. Libraries you sync or share are encrypted before they reach the folder, and every change is signed and checked.

To lock PromptMason’s window with a password as well, turn on App Lock in Settings → Privacy & security. See How your data is protected on this PC.

Do I need an account?

No. There’s no PromptMason account to create and nothing to sign in to. You download PromptMason with just your email, so we can send you the link, and it works from the first time you open it.

Sharing doesn’t need an account either. Team libraries sync through cloud storage you already use, such as OneDrive, Google Drive or Dropbox, and you approve each computer that joins by comparing a code with its owner. If you buy Pro, a license key turns it on; there’s still no account.

See Privacy in PromptMason for more.

Can you see my prompts?

No. Your library is kept on your computer, encrypted, and never on our servers. There’s no account, and no analytics, tracking or crash reporting.

Text leaves your computer only when you choose to send it: running an AI feature with a cloud provider, letting an AI agent read your library, pasting a prompt into a website, or syncing to a cloud folder, where it’s encrypted. Apart from that, PromptMason only checks for updates and, if you have a Pro key, checks the key with our payment provider. Neither sends your library.

See what leaves your computer, and when.

What happens to my text when I use the AI features?

That depends on the AI you choose for each run.

  • Built-in Private AI: nothing leaves your computer. The model runs on your own processor.
  • A cloud provider (OpenAI, Anthropic, Google Gemini or xAI, with your own key): the text you’re working on, your instruction and PromptMason’s instructions for the task go to that provider, under its own terms.
  • An AI agent such as Claude Desktop: it reads from your library what you allow it to.

A line under each chat’s header says whether that chat stays on your computer or which provider it goes to. See What AI features send, and where.

What is the privacy check?

It’s the Privacy check in Evaluate. It reads a saved block, prompt or document and looks for personal, financial or confidential details, so you can catch them before you paste the text into a public AI.

Run it with the built-in AI model and the check itself stays on your computer. Evaluate never changes your text and saves nothing.

One habit helps too: keep private details in variables, such as {{client name}}, and fill them in when you copy. AI assist then sees the variable’s name, not its value. See Evaluate a block, prompt or document.

Can I control what AI apps can do with my library?

Yes. In Settings → AI & connected apps, What connected apps can do has three choices:

  • Full access: connected apps can read your library and create, edit or delete blocks and prompts, as you can.
  • Read-only: they can search and read, but can’t change anything.
  • Off: no AI app can reach your library.

The choice covers AI agents such as Claude Desktop, Cursor and Claude Code, the Chrome extension, and Chat’s library tools. In a team library, the primary owner can limit AI apps further. After you change it, close your AI agent and open it again. See Control what connected apps can do.

Features

What is a block?

A block is one reusable piece of a prompt: a role, background about your work, a task, a format or a rule. You save it once and use it in as many prompts as you like.

You build a prompt by dragging blocks onto the canvas on the Build screen and putting them in order, and you see the finished prompt as you go. Change a block later and every dynamic prompt that uses it shows the new wording. A block that only one prompt needs can live inside that prompt as an embedded block. See Create and edit blocks and Build a prompt.

What's the difference between dynamic and static prompts?

A dynamic prompt is a list of blocks in order. Its text is put together from those blocks each time you use it, so when a block changes, the prompt changes too. That’s the one to use most of the time.

A static prompt is fixed text. Changing a block doesn’t touch it, which suits a prompt you want kept exactly as it is. You get one with Save as Static on the Build screen, or by writing it straight on the Prompts screen.

You choose the kind when you first save. A third kind, the Markdown document, is for Skills and other .md files. See Static prompts, dynamic prompts and documents.

What are variables?

A variable is a named value you write once and use in many blocks and prompts. Write its name in double curly braces, like {{company name}}, and PromptMason fills in the value when you copy or run the text.

There are two kinds:

  • Fixed: always the same value, such as your company name.
  • Ask me each time: PromptMason asks for it when you copy, such as today’s topic or a deadline. It can have a default value, or a list of choices to pick from.

Variables also keep private details out of AI assist, which sees a variable’s name, not its value. See Variables.

What are block packs?

Ready-made sets of blocks, prompts and variables to start from, so you don’t begin with a blank page. Starter packs come with PromptMason for everyday work, finance, legal, marketing, sales, HR and customer support. Add one in a click from Settings → Backup & data, then make it your own: every item is yours to change or delete.

The prompt library on promptmason.ai also has Mega packs, deep packs for one profession or one industry, free to download. Free has room for the Starter pack; Pro holds every pack and everything you build on top. See Add a block pack.

Can I keep Skills and Markdown documents in PromptMason?

Yes. A Markdown document is text PromptMason keeps exactly as you write it, with no blocks or variables. Use one for a Skill, a file of instructions an AI tool can follow, or anything else you keep as a .md file.

Write documents on the Build screen’s Markdown tab, preview them formatted, and copy them or download them as .md files. They’re listed with your prompts, and they count as prompts toward the Free limit. If you don’t see the tab, turn on Markdown editor in Settings → Features. See Markdown documents and Skills.

What does the Chrome extension do?

It opens your PromptMason library from Chrome’s toolbar on any website. Search your prompts and blocks or jump to a folder, preview the finished prompt, fill in its values, and copy it, ready to paste into ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini or any other text box. You can also mark favorites and rate prompts without leaving the browser.

The extension is free, on Free and Pro. It talks only to the PromptMason app on the same computer, which needs to be open. It doesn’t read the pages you visit and sends nothing online. Install it from Settings → AI & connected apps, under Chrome extension. See Chrome extension.

What is the 3D graph?

It’s a map of your library on the Home screen. Each block, prompt, document, chat, variable and tag is a dot, and lines show how they connect: the blocks each dynamic prompt uses, the variables and tags each item has, and the prompts each chat has run. Bigger dots have more connections.

Search for an item to see only what’s joined to it, point to a dot to highlight its links, and double-click a dot to open it. Drag to turn the graph, or switch it to a flat view. On a slower computer, turning off Animate saves computer power. See Home.

Can I get an older version of a prompt back?

Yes. PromptMason saves a version of a block, prompt or document each time you save a change, with no limit on how many it keeps. Open History on the item to look back through the versions and restore one.

If your personal library syncs to your other computers, the history is the same on all of them. In a team library, everyone sees each change made since the library started, with who made it.

If you don’t see History, turn on Version history in Settings → Features. Versions are kept even while it’s off. See Version history.

Can I back up or export my library?

Yes. Automatic backups save a copy of your libraries to a folder you choose, on a schedule. Each backup is encrypted, so only you can open it. Turn them on in Settings → Backup & data with Choose folder…. Backups run while PromptMason is open.

Export saves your personal library to a file you can keep, or import on another computer. An exported file isn’t encrypted, so keep it somewhere private. Your library is never tied to an account.

See Backups and Export and import.

AI and connected apps

What is Built-in Private AI, and does it work offline?

It’s a free AI model that runs on your own computer. Use it for AI assist, Evaluate and Chat with no API key, no account and nothing to pay per use. Nothing you write leaves your computer.

Yes, it works offline. It’s a separate, one-time download that you start from Settings → AI & connected apps, only if you want it. After that it needs no internet connection.

The model is small, so it suits short, focused tasks best. For long text or harder tasks, you can add your own provider key and keep the built-in model for anything private. It’s free on every plan. See Built-in Private AI.

What kind of computer does the built-in AI need?

At least 4 processor cores and 8 GB of memory. You don’t need a graphics card. On a smaller or older computer, rewrites take a little longer.

If your computer is below that, the Local model (private) card in Settings → AI & connected apps tells you, and you can use an AI provider with your own API key instead. Everything else in PromptMason works without any AI set up: writing blocks, building prompts and copying them don’t need it.

See Free, private AI on your PC for the download, step by step.

Can I use my own OpenAI, Anthropic, Google Gemini or xAI key?

Yes. Add your API key in Settings → AI & connected apps, and AI assist, Evaluate and Chat can use that provider. You can set up more than one, choose a default, and pick the model for each run. Under Advanced, you can also connect your own OpenAI-compatible AI server.

The provider bills you for what you use, separately from PromptMason. Your keys are stored encrypted on your computer and are never exported. Text you send goes to that provider under its terms, so keep the built-in model for anything private. See Set up AI.

How do I use my library in Claude Desktop, Cursor or Claude Code?

Through Built-in MCP, included on every plan with nothing extra to install. MCP is a standard way for AI apps to use another app’s tools.

In PromptMason, open Settings → AI & connected apps and find Connect an AI agent. Click Add next to Claude Desktop or Cursor, then click Install in that app. For Claude Code, click Copy command and paste it into a terminal once. Keep PromptMason open while you use your AI agent.

Then ask in plain words, such as “Find my prompts about meeting notes.” Claude Desktop shows a security notice for extensions installed from a file; that’s expected. See Built-in MCP.

What does AI assist do?

AI assist rewrites the block, static prompt or Markdown document you’re editing, or drafts one from a few words. It only suggests: you see exactly what changed, line by line, and your text changes only when you click Accept. Nothing is saved until you save the item.

It works with the built-in AI model or your own provider key. If you don’t see the button, turn on AI assist in Settings → Features, and set up an AI in Settings → AI & connected apps. See Improve text with AI assist.

What does Evaluate do?

Evaluate reads a saved block, prompt or Markdown document and gives you notes on it, in one of two ways:

  • Grade: a score out of 10, what works, and what to improve.
  • Privacy: a check for personal, financial or confidential details before you paste the text into a public AI.

It never changes the item and saves nothing. The button shows when you’re viewing an item rather than editing it, once AI assist is turned on and an AI is set up. Run it with the built-in model to keep the check on your computer. See Evaluate a block, prompt or document.

Teams and your other computers

Can I share prompts with my team?

Yes, with a team library. It syncs through a folder in the cloud storage your team already uses: OneDrive, SharePoint, Google Drive, Dropbox or a network drive. There’s no new account and no new server, and nothing is kept on our servers.

Only the people you invite can read it. The library is encrypted before it reaches the folder, every change is signed and checked, and you approve every computer that joins. Improve a prompt once and everyone has the new version, while your own library stays private alongside it. Team libraries suit small teams, up to about 25 people. See Team libraries.

How do I invite people to a team library?
  1. In Settings → Libraries & sharing, click Create a team library, give it a name, and choose where it goes in your cloud storage. PromptMason makes a folder there.
  2. Share that folder with each person in your cloud storage, and let them make changes.
  3. Copy the invite from PromptMason and send it to them by email or chat. The invite holds no secret.
  4. When they ask to join, you see it in Notifications. Call them, compare the approval code, and approve.

Each person needs PromptMason on their own computer. See the team libraries guide for every step, with pictures.

Does everyone on my team need Pro?

Not always. Team libraries work on Free, but a shared library counts toward each person’s Free limits, together with their own library. So once a team shares more than 25 blocks or 15 prompts, each person needs Pro.

If a team library takes someone on Free over the limits, their library is paused: they can still see, search and export everything, but can’t add, edit or copy until they’re back within the limits or on Pro. Nothing is deleted.

See Team libraries on Free and Pricing.

Who can change what in a team library?

Each member has a role:

  • Reader: uses what’s in the library, and can rate and favorite.
  • Editor: uses and changes what’s in it. New members start as editors.
  • Owner: also exports and backs up the library, and restores deleted items.
  • Primary owner: one owner who also approves computers, removes people, changes roles, and sets what AI apps may do in the library.

The primary owner can change anyone’s role at any time. AI apps can only read a team library unless the primary owner allows more. See Team libraries.

Which cloud storage does sharing work with?

OneDrive, SharePoint, Google Drive, Dropbox, or a network drive. PromptMason syncs through an ordinary folder, so the storage you already use does the moving, and the storage company only sees encrypted files it can’t read.

Two things keep it running smoothly. Set your cloud storage app to keep the whole library folder on each computer, not online only. And keep PromptMason open with your cloud storage app running: PromptMason syncs while it’s open. In Google Drive, put the folder in My Drive.

See Keep the whole folder on every PC for how to set this.

Can I use my library on more than one computer?

Yes. Your personal library can sync to your other computers through a folder in your own cloud storage, such as OneDrive, Google Drive or Dropbox. Nothing in the folder can be read without your computers.

Start on the computer you already use: in Settings → Libraries & sharing, click Use on my other PCs next to Personal. On the new computer, click Join from another PC and pick the same folder. Both computers show the same approval code, and you confirm on the one you already use.

A Pro key works on up to 3 of your own computers. See Use your library on a second PC.

What is the recovery kit, and do I need it?

It’s a spare copy of your keys: one file and a code. Your computers already hold your keys, so you’ll only need the kit if you lose every computer you use PromptMason on, or forget your App Lock password. Think of it as insurance: you save it once and, with luck, never use it.

PromptMason asks you to save it only once, the first time you turn on backups, sync to another computer, create or join a team library, or turn on App Lock. Keep the file and the code in two different safe places away from your computer, such as a USB stick and your password manager. You need both. See Your recovery kit.

Fixing problems

I get a warning when I download or open the installer. Is it safe?

Yes. New apps can get a “not commonly downloaded” warning in your browser while they’re still new. PromptMason is digitally signed, so choose Keep.

When you open the installer, your computer may show a “Windows protected your PC” screen for apps it hasn’t seen often yet. Click More info, then Run anyway.

See Install, update and remove for the rest of the steps. If anything else stops the install, email support@promptmason.ai.

Why can't I add, edit or copy anything?

If the line at the top says Your library is paused., you’re on the Free plan with more than 25 blocks or 15 prompts. That happens when your trial or Pro ends, or when a team library or another of your computers adds items. Nothing is deleted, and you can still see, search, export and delete.

To carry on, buy Pro and activate the key, or delete items until you’re within the limits. Deleted items go to Recently deleted, which doesn’t count; archived items still do.

If it says “You can view this library but not change it,” you’re a reader in a team library: ask its primary owner to make you an editor. See When your library is paused.

My license key won't activate. What do I do?

Read the message under the key box:

  • Couldn’t reach the license server: activating needs the internet. Connect, then click Activate again.
  • That key wasn’t found: copy the whole key again, with no extra spaces or words, and paste it.
  • Already in use on as many computers as it allows: on another computer, open Settings → Plan, click Advanced, then Remove license. Then activate here.
  • Expired or cancelled: the subscription ended. Buy Pro to get a new key.

If you no longer have the old computer, or a message seems wrong, email support@promptmason.ai. See Your trial and license key.

My AI agent says it can't reach PromptMason, or has no PromptMason tools.

PromptMason has to be open on the same computer for Claude Desktop, Cursor or Claude Code to use your library. Open it and try again; you don’t need to restart the agent.

If the agent lists no PromptMason tools, or says PromptMason is turned off or read-only, check What connected apps can do in Settings → AI & connected apps. Choose Full access or Read-only, then close the agent completely and open it again: an agent learns its tools when it starts.

If it says the API token was rejected, make sure PromptMason and the agent run under the same user account. See Troubleshooting MCP connections.

The Chrome extension says it can't reach PromptMason.

The extension works only while the PromptMason app is open on the same computer. Open PromptMason, then close the extension’s window and open it again.

If it says your extension token wasn’t accepted, open Settings → AI & connected apps in PromptMason, copy the token under Chrome extension, and paste it into the extension. If it says PromptMason is turned off for connected apps, choose Full access or Read-only under What connected apps can do. If it says your library is paused, see When your library is paused.

See The Chrome extension for every message.

PromptMason says it can't reach the library folder. How do I fix sync?

Most sync problems come from the cloud storage app, not PromptMason. Check that your cloud storage app is running and signed in, and that it keeps the whole library folder on this computer. Then click Try again in Notifications, or Sync now in the library’s Manage window.

If the folder was moved or renamed, click Choose the folder again and pick it where it is now. If it was unshared, ask the person who shared it. Changes you make meanwhile stay on your computer and go out when the folder is back.

See Sync problems for every sync message.

The built-in AI model won't download or start.

Open Settings → AI & connected apps and read the message on the Local model (private) card.

  • Can’t reach the download server, or the download keeps getting interrupted: check your internet connection and click Try again. The download carries on where it stopped.
  • Couldn’t be reached from this network: a work or school network may block it. Check with whoever manages it.
  • Not enough free space, or not enough free memory: free up space or close some programs, then try again.
  • Needs at least 4 cores and 8 GB: use an AI provider with your own key instead.
  • The download is damaged: click Remove, then download it again.

See Free, private AI on your PC.

Why don't I see the AI assist or Evaluate button?

Both need two things: AI assist turned on in Settings → Features, and an AI set up in Settings → AI & connected apps, either the built-in model downloaded or an API key added.

Evaluate also shows only while you’re viewing an item, not while you’re editing it. While you edit, you see AI assist in its place.

If Chat says “Set up AI to start chatting,” it needs the same thing: click Download the free local model, or add your own API key. See Set up AI.

I copied PromptMason's data folder to a new computer and it won't open my library.

That’s expected, and your data isn’t lost. Your library is encrypted with a key that only your original user account on the original computer can open, so a copied folder shows Could not load workspace data.

Use one of these instead:

  • Export and import: on the old computer, open Settings → Backup & data and click Export. On the new one, click Import… in the same place and choose the file.
  • Sync: use your personal library on both computers through your cloud storage. See Use your library on a second PC, which also covers adding the new computer to your team libraries.
I forgot my App Lock password. How do I get back in?

On the lock screen, click Forgot password? and use your recovery kit to choose a new password. You need both the kit file and its code.

App Lock locks PromptMason’s window with a password you set in Settings → Privacy & security. Turning it on is one of the times PromptMason asks you to save a recovery kit, so keep that kit somewhere safe, away from your computer.

See If you forget your password.

Getting help

How do I get help?

Start with the guides. In PromptMason, click Help at the bottom of the sidebar, or press F1: every guide is there, with search, and it works offline. On promptmason.ai, the guides and the chat button at the bottom right of every page answer how-to questions.

Every guide also ends with a Want a hand? box. Copy it and paste it into Claude, ChatGPT or another AI assistant for help one step at a time.

For anything else, email support@promptmason.ai. Never paste a password, your recovery kit, your recovery code or a library invite into any chat. See Get help.

What should I include when I email support?

Email support@promptmason.ai with:

  1. Your PromptMason version, shown at the bottom of the sidebar.
  2. Your computer’s operating system and its version.
  3. What you were doing: the screen you were on and what you clicked, step by step.
  4. The exact message, copied word for word, or a screenshot of it.
  5. Whether it happens every time, or only sometimes.

For a sync problem, add the library’s name. For an AI agent problem, say which agent you use. Never send a password, your recovery kit file or your recovery code. Before you write, Troubleshooting may already have the answer.

Who do I contact about my order, license key or a refund?

Email support@promptmason.ai, from the address you used at checkout so we can find your order. We reply by email.

The help chat on promptmason.ai can’t look up your order or license, so it can only answer questions about using PromptMason. Email is also the way to reach us if a license message seems wrong, you no longer have the computer your key was on, or you were charged by mistake.

See Refunds for how refunds work, and Get help for the other ways to get help.
